Oracle of Ages (Linked game) high playthrough log 2/4

Found a bunch of Oracle of Seasons secret passwords around Crescent Island...

Dmitri gave Link a ride back across the ocean... At Lynna City there's an that only happens in a Linked game, where Princess Zelda showed up and got captured and taken to the Black Tower. She was kidnapped by a red flying monster that remembers Link from Holodrum... It's just a quick little sidescrolling Donkey Kong knockoff section. She gives you a special ring in exchange for saving her. She says she came here because she saw a vision of this land being consumed by sorrow and despair... Impa and Zelda go to hide out in Nayru's house for the rest of the game.

More trading sequence progress... the people in past Lynna City are getting more and more suspicious of Queen Ambi now... oh, a "very sub-rosan fellow" washed up on the south shore... more Linked game shenanigans. The sword baseball game is fun... got 430 points.

I heard this next part of the game changes depending on whether you get Dmitri's flute, Ricky's flute, or Moosh's flute, and it even changes some of the terrain to accomodate for whichever animal you went with... that's cool... but since this is a linked game I'm stuck with Ricky who I chose in OoS.

Got to a part where you need to gather all the carpenters so that they can fix the bridge... saw a fairy randomly fly by... followed it to the Fairy Woods where Moosh got lost... unlocked the OoS Great Fairy secret.

Symmetry Village Ruins... a village on a volcano this place is all ruined by fire monsters and abandoned in the present time. In the past, the characters on each side of the town are twin images of each other. You have to restore the Tuni Nut in the past to save the village's future... I wonder if this catastrophe was part of the shadow of sorrow that Veran is trying to cast over Labrynna... The Black Tower is now very close to being finished in the past, so its effects are already having more drastic consequences on Labrynna in the present.

Found a character who teaches Link the Tune of Currents... it's just like the mirror in LttP. With this, you can now go back to the present time at any moment when you're in the past. Exploring the Talus Peaks to find all the optional goodies and the right way to go, requires a lot of going into time portals and switching back and forth between ages in the right place... Since this area is volcanic, that explains why its terrain has had so many drastic changes over time.

Found a classic LttP fairy spring... "Do not throw anything into the water"... got a bomb bag upgrade in exchange for being honest.

Found a guy who can fix the Tuni Nut, but he only does it if Link participates in his "trap... er, I mean ceremony"... a little minigame where you have to kill the enemies before the minecart goes all the way around... uh okay whatever.

The Tuni Nut turns the volcano into a... water sprout mountain... cool.

Level 4 - Skull Dungeon

Another very nice dungeon with a lot of cleverly designed puzzles, and of course a map shaped like a skull... The music here has a very "Capcom" ish feel to it. There's a lot of complex minecart track navigation puzzles, gibdo enemies, a really cool Armos Knight miniboss...

The dungeon item here is the Switch Hook... it's like the hookshot, except with a magical "swap positions with the thing you hook onto" feature... sure why not... More of those "Step on all the tiles in the room only once" puzzles, and platforming, etc... overall a very good dungeon with a lot of variety. The boss is another Zelda 1 throwback... Eyesore, the boss version of Patra... defeated it easily. Got the 4th essence, Burning Flame.
It reignites wavering hearts with hero's burning passion.
They are really starting to run out of ideas for these... this one doesn't even have anything to do with time.

Got the Gale seeds, now navigating Labrynna has gotten way less tedious... Finished the trading quest, got the broken Hero's sword from an old zora... Went back to that weird ceremony guy in Talus Peaks to turn the broken sword into the Master Sword... it's a level higher than the Noble Sword that you can bring over from OoS with a password.

The next area is Rolling Ridge, a confusing mountain/cave structure where the Gorons live, they're having all kinds of problems. The Great Moblin that appeared in OoS is back and has set up a base here. There's a platforming section where you gain the pegasus seeds... Then yo uget bomb flowers from the gorons, and you can use those to save the elder goron from the rubble that has collapsed onto him, and he gives you the key to next dungeon.

Level 5 - Crown Dungeon

One floor is shaped like a crown, the other floor is shaped like a tiara.. the tiara floor is very segmented, with mostly every room isolated from each other and only accessible from the staircases on the crown floor. There's also crystal switch puzzles... and the enemies here have taken a step up in difficulty, including some of those Ball & Chain enemies.

The Cane of Somaria is the dungeon item here... mostly used to hold button switches down, but one really cool other thing it's used for is to fight the the boss of this dungeon, Smog... This is one of the most unique bosses in the Oracle games... he splits apart into multiple smaller versions of himself, and they each move around on different block formations.. and you have to use the Cane of Somaria to get them to collide together merge back into its vulnerable form. You can stun the smaller forms by attacking them, but the others will still be shooting at you while you're doing that.

Got the 5th essence of "time", Sacred Soil.
All that lies sleeping in the bosom of the earth will know the nourishing warmth of the Sacred Soil.
Okay that's totally an Essence of Nature, not Time. Dumb game.
