Chapter 8 - All Things... continued

Just as I was about to get back out of the sewers, Fassad shows up out of nowhere, literally just flies out of the gross purple water. The interpreter robot comes flying in as well.

This character really does remind me of Fawful.

Boney can't smell any weaknesses... I just tried buffing/debuffing and using PK Starstorm. He does a lot of damage if you don't use Def/Shield buffs on everyone right away, also he gives everyone crying status so I can't hit with any physical attacks, plus he often uses shield on himself.

Tried using the Trivia Card items, since they're supposed to be effective against human enemies, but nope it does nothing.

Shield Snatcher, plus using up some of my Pencil Rockets and bombs, and doing some physical damage after healing the crying status... seems to be working.

Fassad's heart is filled with hatred! Fassad is serious now!

Now he's using all kinds of buffs/debuffs and scarfing down Luxury Bananas every turn, and he also started using PK Starstorm... but I managed to defeat him through sheer brute force.

Chapter 7: The Seven Needles continued

I didn't want to grind at all... but man, I really want that Lifeup Omega. Okay there, after walking all the way back through Argilla Pass, and back through the Seafloor and Tanetane Island again, and then turning around and walking back to Ionia's house, my levels are now 51 / 50 / 49 / 50, and I now have Lifeup Omega. This made the commander fight WAY easier.

The commander starts short-circuiting... then he flies away with his mechanical bat wings. The Waters of Time made the vines in front of the temple instantly age and move out of the way.

Ionia:

It was our Magypsy ancestors who sealed away the Dark Dragon. Magypsies have guarded the seven Needles for many generations since. But the Needles will be pulled when "the time" comes. And that time is now... The heart of the person who pulls the Needles will be passed on to the Dark Dragon. And then something big will happen... Something big enough to recreate the entire world.

Before Lucas pulls out the needle, Ionia says she wants to teach Princess Kumatora a very strong power... a lightning bolt strikes her, and she realized the power of PK Starstorm!

Her last words before the Needle is pulled out:

Thanks for the pickles earlier. The dog drool was a bit disconcerting, though. *giggle*

The Earthquakes are getting way more intense now... Lucas learned PK weed Omega.

Oh yeah, of course Ionia has to have another big long speech as she's disappearing.

As I start to disappear, my heart senses an intense disturbance. Locria, the final, missing Magypsy, is rapidly nearing the seventh Needle! That's what I'm sensing. It's coming from... that direction. From a lively, filthy place... Oh! Just when I'm about to tell where it is...! Aaah!

Got Ionia's razor and lipstick... I guess it would be useful to for the party to carry all 7 of these mementos with them going into the final chapter.
Oh wait, noooo! Lucas's inventory is full, so she doesn't give him it... oh well, I probably don't need it.

Chapter 7 - The Seven Needles continued

I'm actually not sure where to go next. I recall there were 1 or 2 paths that were blocked by ants earlier, but I forget where those are.
Then to make things even worse, a pig UFO comes down and drops a bomb on the entrance to Saturn Valley, making us trapped here... Duster suggests asking the Saturns if they know another way out of the village.

The one Saturn in the house talks about building a flying machine with lots of birds... you gotta wait patiently to catch them.

I caught a bird easily, by waiting for it to walk into me... then the Saturn tells me to wait in the hot spring while he makes the flying machine... another Saturn inside the hot spring offers me a coffee..

Ahh... I guess I was wrong about the Rope Snake becoming irrelevant.

He comes and helps us ride on the bird cage... then he loses his grip again and we fall off into the ocean right by Tazmily.

Chapter 7 - The Seven Needles continued

Okay, so to recap what's going on... so far 3 of the seven Magypsie needles have been pulled out... one in Osohe Castle pulled out by the Pigmask commander, and one in Murasaki Forest pulled out by Lucas... and 1 in Snowcap Mountain that the commander got to before Lucas could. Each time a needle is pulled out, the Magypsie who is gaurding that needle fades out of existence... The Magypsies have lived for a long time guarding these needles, waiting for the prophecized one to come and pull them out in order to save the world... they have lived for a long time guarding these needles, and they've long since accepted the fact that they will disappear when their needle is pulled... But there's also another part of the prophecy that says if one with evil intentions pulls out the needles, the world will fall to evil. At the 3rd needle in Snowcap Mountain, at that point I got stuck at a really hard boss that I might need to grind a bit for...

I forgot I had this "Enemy Wimperizer" item... maybe you're meant to start using this on bosses if you don't want to grind.

...or not. It doesn't even work on this Steel Mechorilla. oh and it's one-use then it's gone, regardless of whether it worked or not... wow what a great item.
Could it be maybe Kumatora's lightning attacks that are making him "short circuit" and go berserk? I'll try not using that anymore.
Like, I don't think you're meant to be able to survive for more than a few turns when he goes berserk... that's just insane. Even after a few Defense Up buffs on the whole team and Offense Down on it, it still isn't enough to survive a few turns without everybody being on healing duty every turn... I have no good "heal all" powers yet, and only PSI Shield alpha that only works one at a time and doesn't last long...
I can beat this thing easily if it never short circuits though... so just in case attacking is what triggers that, I'll do all the buffs/debuffs I can while guarding with Boney before I start attacking...

Ha! I was right... no short-circuit + going buff/debuff crazy at the start = ridiculously impossible boss battle turns pathetically easy

Oh yeah, Right before the boss battle, Lucas and the commander had an epic staredown...

Mother 3 high playthrough part 6: The "Oh yeah, I remember that from EarthBound" section

After taking Ionia to Aeolia's seashell house, and untying her... suddenly an earthquake occurs, and then Aeolia starts to disappear...

Does this mean that...

The Needle in Osohe Castle that I've protected for so long... Someone has pulled it. Someone able to pull the needles... has finally appeared. The Dark Dragon sealed away by the seven Needles will awaken...

The table moves, and reveals an underground path that leads directly to the Osohe Castle courtyard. Before Aeolia completely vanishes, she says she wants us to find out who pulled the needle.

The answer to that may change the fate of the world completely.

Received Aeolia's memento, a razor and lipstick... is this a battle item or what? It's not in my key items.

That underground path was very short and easy... and it does in fact lead straight to the courtyard where the Needle used to be. I remember passing by this place when looking for the egg in chapter 2.

The Dark Dragon's heart will become as light or as dark as the person who pulls it... That's what is said, anyway, but I don't sense anything here at all. I don't sense a heart of good OR evil.

...

There's one other legend... it says only those with the power of PK weed can pull the seven Needles.

Highway continued

Further up on the highway, passed the cafe, found a little cave with a guy named Leo-Leo, surrounded by a bunch of gift boxes. He says he got these presents from some girls, and tells me not to open them... then I talk to him a few more times.

You naturally try to open a gift box the instant you see one, don't ya? But too bad! These ones belong to me!

You look like you're thinking to yourself, "Come on, just one box.", Well too bad!

I really doubt you're popular with the girls. You don't seem like a very bad dude, either. I dunno, should I let you open one...? Nope, not gonna happen!

Okay, okay! You can have one, and only one. Even a bad dude like Leo-Leo has a nice side... That's why the chicks dig me.

Hmm... this is mysterious... I wonder what would've happened if I had just taken all the presents first and then talked to him.

Opened a present.. got the "Knit sweater" with Leo-Leo's name knitted onto it... oh I see, and if you try to open more than that, the guy stops you... this wasn't very exciting...
I also found another hidden mouse kid in this room... one more to go... and the last mouse is just out in the open on the side of the road.

In exchange for bringing the mouse mom's kids back, the reward is a kiss and an item called "Shield Snatcher"

Went to the junk yard, where the defective clayman was dropped off... got attacked by a Junk Heap.

lol when you try to sniff the Putrid Junk Heap with Boney to figure out its weakness, the stench is too much and he can't do it.

Mother 3 high playthrough part 4: OH MY PORK

- Chapter 4: Club Titiboo continued -

Okay so Sunshine Forest isn't where I'm supposed to go. The enemies here are way too strong for Lucas and Boney... back in the town, Wess is yelling at Fassad, saying he's he's doing something to this town and is the one behind the lightning strikes... Wess asks Lucas to go find Duster, who I gathered is at Club Titiboo...

Where is this Club Titiboo, anyway? No idea... then I happened to come across an NPC who says you need to take the train to get there... I don't have a ticket though, and the train isn't running... the train guy suggests walking along the tracks...

The enemies along these tracks are kinda tough... I got killed by one of them that kept calling for help... Got a bit further... these butterflies are not useful at all because Lucas doesn't have any PSI moves yet... found a magic butterfrog... oh, the Magypsie person here teaches Lucas a bunch of PSI moves by drowning him in the hot spring...

Clayman Factory

A sign warns me to stay away from the camelsnakes...

Youngsters! Here's you're chance to sweat beautiful sweat! Part time help wanted at the factory.

Sweet, there's a frog, now I can try and fight that camelsnake... in fact, with the frog being the respawn point, there's no downside to getting killed here. You just respawn right there at the frog again but with all your HP and PP maxed out, and you keep whatever stuff you got before you died... wow this almost feels like cheating, but I guess it's a fair strategy...

Yep, as I thought, the camelsnakes are way to strong for Lucas and Boney, I died against them and respawned right where I was at full health.

This Factory has clayman people working there... This atmosphere is very surreal... just the feeling of mindless, numbing repetition is everywhere in the air here...

The monkey gets zapped whenever he disobeys his commands... He makes the monkey, dance, laugh, and backflip... and when the monkey starts crying...

Death Desert

I'm playing as the monkey right now... I'm in control, well not really... If I go anywhere besides where Fassad wants me to go I get zapped.
The monkey, Salsa, has monkey skills...
- Apologize to an enemy to stop it in its tracks.
- Perform various tricks to stop an enemy somwhat.
- Perform various dances for different results.
- Counter an enemy with its own attack.

Mother 3 high playthrough part 2: Froggy Intelligence

The enemies in this forest seem harder than before.. now that Flint is on his own these snakes and mice make me constantly need to heal.
lol what's with this walking bush enemy... It follows you around but doesn't actually engage you unless you try and talk to it. then in battle it just uses Lifeup on Flint and does non-hostile things. weird...

Walking Bushie greeted everyone politely and left.

These boar enemies are kinda tough, but then I learned the rhythm to get combo hits on them...

Back to Alec's house

Alec says he knows where Clause went...

According to my froggy intelligence, he's at my friend's house.

My friend is able to talk with frogs, lizards, and what have you.

His friend is a Magypsie... The Magypsies have lived isolated from civilization for a long time...
In addition to the save frogs, there's also these weird red "arrow lizards" that point to the direction you need to go...

The magypsies are neither human nor beast, neither man nor woman.

Eventually these arrow lizards lead me to...

Wrong. I am the wrong frog.

Mother 3 high playthrough part 1: The Funshine Sorest is on tire!

Starting a high playthrough of Mother 3 Fan Translation v1.2
The first time I played this was like 10 years ago, back when the translation patch first came out... I don't remember much at all except for the major story details.. I've really been looking forward to replaying this.

The naming screen animation is so cute.
Went with all the default character names of course... and fav food noodles and fav thing weed... and grape window color

I'm at the home of Alec, Hinawa's father, where Hinawa and her kids Lucas and Claus are visiting...
Claus knocking on the door, telling Lucas to get up so they can go see the dragos.. his mom tells him to go change out of pajamas before leaving

So far the exact same gameplay stuff is happening as the Earthbound intro, except with a totally different story/context.
Unlike Earthbound, there are sometimes some unique looking things in houses that you can examine for a bit of flavor text.

Hinawa's dad is outside... both of him and his mom called him sleepyhead...
Alec: "Well, today's the day you head back home."
