Some ambassadors from the Beanbean Kingdom came to the Mushroom Kingdom and stole Peach's voice and replaced it with explosives... now she makes things explode whenever she talks. After a really silly scene where Toad comes to get the Mario bros... they go to see Peach, and Bowser is there... Tutorial fight... It turns out Bowser doesn't even want to kidnap her anymore because of her explosive voice. He hires Mario and Luigi as minions to help get Peach's voice back so he can then go back to kidnapping her...
This Castle garden area serves as a movement tutorial to get you used to moving/jumping around with both characters, and there's some useful stuff to collect before moving on past the point of no return... Boarded Bowser's airship, and his minions give you some more tutorials on how to battle and stuff... They also took Mario+Luigi's photos for their passports... oh wow, your passport photo pose you used shows up in the save screen for the whole game...
Bowser's fleet goes after Cackletta. Cackletta's minion Fawful... has a way with words...
First battle against the jetpack helmet wearing poet villain, Fawful... Then we crash landed in Stardust Fields, still in the Mushroom Kingdom territory...
These 2 hammer bros acting as the border patrol guards make us play a minigame to get passed them.
Then they gave us the Beanbean map... I guess Beanbean Kingdom is just south of Mushroom Kingdom.
Stardust Fields
This place has warp pipes just like the Mushroom Kingdom does...
These "Fighter Fly" enemies look a lot like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...
Up ahead, found Bowser stuck in a cannon... The cannon's owner, Tolstar (a fat version of the Spike enemy from SMB3) frees him in exchange for all of our coins.. which are only worth 10 Beanbean coins... need to explore Stardust Field to find 100 more Beanbean coins to keep him quiet about the incident...
Learned some Bros moves from the Starshade Bros... high jump and spin jump...
The Bros moves also work as Bros attacks in battle... oh cool, the Bros attacks in this game have 3 difficulty modes. Mastering the harder modes leads to learning advanced version of the Bros attacks that are harder and do more damage...
Tolstar battles M+L instead of letting Bowser out of the cannon. After beating him, M&L launched Bowser out of the cannon and then went on to the next area...
Suddenly, some Beanbean guards come and say that Prince Peasley has been kidnapped...
According to eyewitness accounts, the prince's kidnapper wore an odd helmet and spoke of mustard and fink-rats...Hoohoo Village
These hoohoo people look like cacti... This village is on the base of Hoohoo Mountain, they live right next to a mountain cliffside and a waterfall...
Long ago, on this very mountain, the Hoohooligans developed the great Hoohoo civilization.
Ancient Hooroglyphs on the wall, depicting the countless jokes of old...
This kingdom seems like it has a lot of history/lore based on the concept of humor... There's even doors that are kind of in the shape of a grinning mouth and tongue sticking out...
Someone says he saw Prince Peasley being taken to the top of the mountain... Someone named Blablanadan, who is able to scale the mountain easily, went up the mountain after them. Went in a cave and climbed to the upper part of Hoohoo Village, higher up on the cliff/waterfall... Fawful puts down a rock statue to block our path, I guess he took tips from Kammy in Paper Mario...
The Hammerhead Bros, Sledge and Mallet can't make a hammer for us until they get some special material that is further up the mountain... and it just so happens that the Hoohoos just finished repairing the bridge after we talked to them.
Hoohoo Mountain - Ascent
This area is pretty simple to navigate... only using what you already learned in Stardust Fields, plus another mechanic where you make Mario bloated with water and then squeeze the water out of him to put out fire, and this somehow creates little tornado things in the air that extend your spin jump.
About half way up Hoohoo Mountain, and reached a talking ancient weapon called Hoohooros. It tests you at some easy minigame where you have to use spinjump to collect stuff without falling off the platforms... and then tests you further in an easy miniboss battle... then he opens the way further up the mountain... it keeps going a bit longer... the path is fairly linear, but the terrain gets kinda complicated with a lot of verticality and little side paths for items... Rex enemies from SMW show up here.
Finally reached the summit... some binoculars let you down at a zoomed in 2D picture of Beanbean Castle and the rest of the overworld... it's just there for fun, no other reason...
Found Blablanadon, the pterodactyl that followed Prince Peasley's captor up here, and then found a big egg and started guarding it, and is also guarding the Hoohoo block that the Hammerhead Bros need...
A dragon hatched from the egg, and the Hoohoo block fell down the waterfall straight down into the Hammerhead Bros' house... the baby dragon is really angry for some reason and knocks Blablanadon far across the map and battles M+L...
wtf, after I defeated the dragon, it transformed into Prince Peasley... Cackletta and Fawful have some really strange methods... Peasley gives M+L a rose that'll let them into Beanbean Castle, and then he flies away on his magic carpet. Blablanadon returned already somehow and brought us back down to the Hammerhead Bros house... got the hammer finally.
Wait so, I'm confused... we already made it to the summit of the mountain where Prince Peasley was captured... wtf is that other path that Fawful blocked off then?
Hoohoo Mountain - Descent
So that was actually the path leading DOWN the mountain, the only way to get to Beanbean Castle and the rest of the kingdom... So I guess the path from Stardust Fields only exits out to Hoohoo Village which is already like part of the way up the mountain...
A minecart minigame... this is really cool. Mario holds the flashlight and is in the foreground, while Luigi is in the background, and both need to jump to collect fuel and gems... using only the one light source...
Now we're in Northwest Beanbean field. It's like the central overworld hub area that connects to Beanbean Castle in the center of it and all the other areas along the outside of it... and there's a lot of these yellow spiny enemies of the beanbean variety...
Beanbean Castle Town 1
The-the town was attacked... the horror... They attacked while the Beanbean troops were in Hoohoo Village looking for Prince Peasley.I see, no wonder Fawful blocked the path down the mountain...
Injured bean people lying around everwhere, and the houses and terrain all look wrecked...
lmao these houses though... the grinning face imagery is much less subtle here than in Hoohoo Village...
Someone says Cackletta must be after the Beanstar that's hidden in the castle...
Beanbean Castle 1
Lady Lima doesn't let us see Queen Bean until we down to the basement to complete a plumbing test to prove we're the real Mario Bros... The enemies here are reminiscent of the Mario Bros arcade game enemies (a game that is included in this game itself)
Nothing really special about this area... just a matter of walking around everywhere, hammering down all the corks, spinning the valves...
wait... completing this section opens up a prison cell where the real Lady Lima was being held... The other Lady Lima from before was actually Cackletta, she tricked M+L into fixing the plumbing so that she could gain access to the Beanstar... lol the Beanstar security system is tied to the plumbing...
damn I should've seen that coming. The castle did seem strangely peaceful considering...
Cackletta! It is the hurrying time! We must take that Beanstar and fastly run away from this place!
Eyaa ha ha! At last... At long, long last... I have in my possession both the Beanstar and Peach's voice!Lady Lima explains that the Beanstar is basically like the Triforce, an artifact that can grant any desire of the one who holds it, and the Beanbean royal family was supposed to protect it from falling into evil hands... M&L go upstairs to face Cackletta and Fawful, who still haven't left yet for some reason...
Once we awaken the Beanstar with Princess Peach's voice, this world will be Cackletta's snack cake!
Cackletta has Queen Bean under her control now...
Perhaps teh three of you can sit down over tea to discuss the finer points of foreign policy!This Queen Bean boss battle is decently tough... lol when you destroy her buff arms they deflate into skinny arms... only when both arms are deflated, her crown comes off and you can attack her body.
Lady Lima says the only way to get rid of Queen Bean's belly blech and bring her back to normal, is if she drank the legendary Chuckola Reserve from Chucklehuck Woods, which is to the southwest of here... The attendant gave us our first badge, and the town now has a clothing shop open with some armor upgrades...
So far this game is very easy... I'm pumping all the Stache and Attack points I can into Luigi, while with Mario I'm making him well rounded in everything... Same thing I did with Dream Team which I played just recently... I like Dream Team more than this so far, cuz that game has a higher difficulty in the early game compared to this, all the enemy attacks are much more unique and harder to dodge, and I like the overall aesthetics of the 3DS game much more than these GBA graphics.
