Oracle of Seasons high playthrough log 3/3

The overworld treasure map that I got recently, shows the location of the 4 jewels needed to enter the Tarm Ruins. This place kinda reminds me of the LttP's eastern ruins combined with the northern region of Zelda 1.

A lot of the hidden secrets you find in this game are passwords,
that you're supposed to use in the OoA linked game to get the actual
reward.

To the left of there is the entrance to the Lost Woods... this place is cool, it's kinda like the Zelda 1 Lost Woods, except the 4 seasons are part of the puzzle. You have to go west, south, east, north, with each step leading to a warmer tempurature...

There was a cutscene showing that there's another evil lurking in the shadows behind the game's main villain, Onox. It seems like something bigger is going on here...
If you save Din, the world will be filled with destruction, sorrow, and despair, a great sacrifice will be offered, and the Evil King will be revived!
I think I know what this implies...

  • If you're playing a non-linked game: Link saves Din, but Zelda gets sacrificed and Ganon is fully revived, which leads to the Zelda 1/AoL story.

  • *]If you're playing a linked game: Link travels through time to save both Din and Nayru, and Ganon's resurrection fails and is easily defeated, which leads to a different scenario.

Got the Noble Sword... and the Lost Woods also lead to another section of the Tarm Ruins, which lead to...

Level 6 - Ancient Ruins... kinda shaped like a pyramid I guess.. each floor up gets smaller and smaller.

That compass was hard to get to... damn beamos...
Most of the dungeons in this game seem like more action oriented than anything. Most of the challenge is from the puzzles. Actually figuring out where to go is easy. Kinda a lot like Zelda 1. The boss of this level is Manhandla.  Hardest boss yet... Got the 6th essence, Blowing Wind.
Sweet fruit is born when pollen is carried by the Blowing Wind!
Finished Subrosia's big trading quest and got the L-2 armor... that would've made the 6th dungeon way easier if I had done that earlier lol

4 Golden Beasts sidequest... How were you supposed to do this without a guide? If you dry up the lake near the 1st dungeon, you find a staircase leading to an old man who tells you about these 4 rare gold enemies that are found somewhere in Holodrum. If you find and kill these 4 enemies and go back to him, he gives you a ring. The gold beasts are hidden randomly in certain locations during a certain season where you'd never think of looking.

The Subrosia pirate ship contains the password you need to get into Samsara Desert. This place is really annoying... sand enemies spawning right ontop of you all the time... Woah, the pirate ship in the sand... half of it is in Subrosia and half of it is in Holodrum... that's a really nice touch.

Got the damn bell for the skeleton pirate captain... Now they're finally able to move their ship out of the sand, and it moves to the western coast of Holodrum. There you get access to the graveyard.

Level 7 - Explorer's Crypt... The 3 floors are shaped like various graves.
The source of the curse is hidden in darkness.
Lots of dark areas where you need to light torches to defeat the ghosts... this is pretty tough. Got the Roc's Cape here, an awesome item that upgrades the Roc's Feather into an item that lets you glide a short distance.
Below me, red. My right, red. Only I shall shine blue.
This level has some really cool puzzles... sometimes you need to jump up through the floors via trampolines and holes in the floor.

Another Zelda 1 boss, Gleeok... would've been much harder if I hadn't gotten the Red Ring + Noble Sword by now. It was a bit too easy.

Got the 7th essence, the Seed of Life.
Life begins anew when birds carry this, the Seed of Life, to new lands!
The Maku tree doesn't have any idea where the last essence is, it's entirely up to the player now to find out where to go.

... I haven't explored the ruins where the Temple of Seasons was into very much yet. This place has a lot of tough late-game enemies, and it's even more confusing to navigate than the Tarm Ruins... another Subrosia portal, leading to a place where you can make the volcano erupt and affect the world up above...

It kinda feels like the Temple Ruins in Holodrum is starting to merge with Subrosia... That opens up a new path, which leads to another portal into the Subrosia volcano, and that's where the 8th dungeon is.

Level 8 - Sword & Shield Maze
2 floors shaped like a sword and shield. The shield part is all ice and the sword part is all lava/fire obstacles. The miniboss is Frypolar, an enemy made of both ice and fire.
This dungeon is awesome... some of the floors are like bomberman levels. There's some really tricky puzzles here, and a big puzzle involving moving ice crystals from room to room.
The boss is Medelock, some floating head enemy. Again really easy with the Red Ring and the L-2 Noble Sword. Finally got the final Essence of Nature, Changing Seasons.
Scattered seeds sprout in spring, grow in summer, bear fruit in fall and sleep through winter. It is an endless cycle of life... the Changing Seasons!
Using the 8 essences in the middle of the Temple ruins sends you to Onox's Castle...

The old man I kept seeing in this game... was that actually Twinrova?
Soon, the flame of destruction will burn, and no one can keep us from holding our rites!
This last part of the game is just a series of rooms with tough enemies you need to clear out to advance to the next room... Then the final boss.

Onox, General of Darkness
My orders were to capture Din and deliver the destructive power of a seasonless land to Twinrova. The Flame of Destruction is set to devour this land!
This boss battle is really hard. It's in a sidescrolling format, and it's more like a platformer boss. The ring buffs and all the other upgrades I got seem like they're actually meant for this fight. I can't imagine how much harder it would be if I didn't go out of my way for all that stuff.

After defeating Onox, Twinrova is like "The damage Onox has done still lives on in the flame..."
Sequel hook for the Oracle of Ages linked game...
