High replay started, on Kirby's Dream Collection for Wii... I'm glad I went with this port for the high replay, instead of the GBA remake version called Nightmare in Dreamland.
wow, an actual tricky sword puzzle in 2-3 for a hidden UFO power and tomato... This makes that recurring miniboss gang actually really easy.
3-5 has a hammer at the end...
First 3 worlds... it's VERY easy so far... It's even easier than Dream Land 1 because of the powers... so far at least... even the sun+moon boss which I remember being very hard, is a piece of cake if you have the cutter or laser. And there are powerups/miniboss arenas you can go back for infinite times...
31% ~Swift Hunter~
Grape Garden
getting way harder now... secrets are less obvious... that miniboss gauntlet is actually kinda hard if you limit yourself to sword
4-6's secret requires you to go back past a barrage of flying homing enemies, and you don't have mic power anymore... unlocks star warp... not really useful since you can also just go back through zones the long way.
Yogurt Yard
mountain climbing, door mazes...
5-6 kinda transitions into Orange Ocean, I like when the end of a world transitions into the next world...
tthis had that one really hard secret I remember being stuck on, have to get a hammer from somewhere first, and keep it all the way through this level, avoiding the wheel enemies and other stuff...
beat the digger with the hammer flawlessly, just like in the ending scene where it shows the staff fighting all the bosses.
Orange Ocean
this world is more... brown than I remember...
hammer is actually better than sword in this game.. I'm keeping it most of the time now.
6-1... another tough level you need to bring hammer all the way through... wheel powerup in the hub as a reward.
6-2's secret is tricky, but not that bad... there's also a UFO here...
6-3, the boat level... uh wut... that's crazy... had to look it up... a hidden/unseeable door behind a bomb block... then another one behind an enemy on a one-tile platform... the bomb block part threw me for a loop, cuz like it seems to change the level a bit, adding water... but it doesn't actually change anything meaningful, so you just have to know to press up where the bomb block was.
stopping here, at 73%...
~Star General~
6-4 went pretty well... only missed one little side area that had like 3 1ups.
my rechargables are all dead... but I guess it's fine if I can swap between some every 20 minutes while the others are charging...
holy fuck that cannon secret at the end of 6-5 was hard to get. but at least you got a respawning fire enemy.
6-6 has a trippy pixel aurora skyline...
found the fireball-only secret path at the beginning...
kept the UFO through the whole level... there's a split path, tried bottom first.
luckily the boss door in world 6 had a fireball...
both split paths were easy... well the bottom path was easy cuz I kept the UFO... for some reason the UFO didn't appear again after I got the switch, but the upper path was just an invincibility run anyway...
omg actually having a lot of trouble with that 10-knight team this time... they're kinda tough without any powerups...
lost 3 health against Meta-Knight...
Level 7 - Rainbow Resort
7-1's secret switch is cleverly hidden away behind 2 layers of hidden breakable blocks that need 2 different powerups to get through (both of which are respawning enemies in that room)
7-2 miniboss rush... most of these enemies are actually very fair once you take the time to learn their pattern instead of just rushing in to attack as quickly as possible.
oh no lemme guess, for the secret... I gotta keep the back drop power past the fireball lion enemy, in order to use it on that sword guy at the end to get through the floor... er... actually the hammer is probably more likely... that means I gotta also get through the throw and backdrop guy with the hammer...
well I managed to try with backdrop at least... and looks like there's no secret switch here anyway so...
7-3 is a very short nonsense laser grid level (that doesn't have a laser enemy in it)...
7-4 is a flower garden with a ball enemy at the beginning...
holy shit this is legit hard if you don't have a good powerup... the ball can only attack while it's ascending from a bounce it seems like... there's a laser, tornado, and other enemies later on, and TONS of birds that swoop down at you.
then a tire boss... and some weird directional gravity pushing holes... with fireball guys everywhere and music notes in the background... I don't even get what this is...
yeah actually... none of these levels except 7-1 even have a switch... 7-5 did have a ridiculously hard cannon to get though, you had to make perfect fireball wall-bounces... it lead to a room of 5 1ups... now at 15 lives
7-6... it's Dream Land 1... all the enemies here don't have powerups...
yep... I knew this was where that hidden moon door was... this is the last hidden switch of the game... I'll just go back through each Level map again to confirm. now have 16 lives...
WOW.... wow. I crushed that final boss fight...
beat Dedede with the cutter, with 1 health left... regained my health for the shmup fight... had 2 health left going into the nightmare's final phase, and beat the final phase on my last hit... still with 16 lives left.
forgot how much I loved seeing those ending demo boss battles, with the kirby staff beating the bosses using unusual powerups...
love this ending screen too...
everyone will dream well tonight.
~Hero of Lore~
I still like this game a lot, although I'm really having problems with the framerate and occasional lack of button response in this game... was it like that on NES too? does the 3DS remaster or KiD remake fix that? other than that, I generally seem a lot better at this game now than I used to be. Some of those harder secrets aren't taking me too long at all to do while high.
