Got up to stages 19 on Squid Jump before getting a game over.

Continuing sets you back a few stages and resets your score to 0... may as well restart from the beginning in that case.
It gets really hard when there are a lot of those powerups that make you jump really fast, and almost all the platforms are tiny ice or conveyor belts or tiny moving platforms.

Here's my screenshots checking out all the small details in the hub area.

I'm just gonna play the single player in this. The multiplayer is pointless now that we have Splatoon 2. The Joycons are infinitely more comfy than the bulky gamepad.

Started the campaign mode, Octo Valley.

The first world is very easy and boring. There's no challenge at all, and it's all very linear. Then I got to the first boss... That was actually kinda fun... and then the 2nd world is where the game started getting way more creative and fun with its enemies and obstacles.

Now I'm liking the story mode a lot more than I thought I would... I just found out that each level has a research note in it to find somewhere. I had to go back through the first 4 levels again and search them out. Suddenly these linear stages became a lot more interesting since now I'm always looking around for a hidden thing to find.

Then later in world 2, there's a non-linear arena stage where the path to the goal is easy, but there are humanoid octolings fighting you all over the place. Also there's a level that makes use of the tutorial area, with a miniboss at the end.

The last 6 levels in Octo Valley were all surprisingly hard. I actually got game over 1 or 2 times on all of them. Also, the hub area itself has progressively gotten more and more confusing. I spent like 10 minutes just trying to navigate the platforms in this 5th section to find all the levels. At least when you uncover the levels, you can warp to them any time with the touch screen.

The level designs in this game are so good. I never would've expected to get some actual legit 3D platforming in a multiplayer shooter.

And then the final boss... omg this boss is inkredible. It has like 10 phases, and it takes place on a platforming stage where you progress into the next phase by moving across the platforms after you push the boss back by doing some damage to him. Each phase gets more and more intense, and by the end you only have these tiny little platforms to stand on while dodging a ton of projectiles and a huge laser beam that he shoots out, and you have to do all that while also hitting a certain projectile back and forth like a tennis ball to damage him This boss took me a few game overs before I got good enough to beat him, it felt really satisfying.

After you beat the story mode, if you go back into Octo Valley there's some extra dialog, and of course you can still access every level, just in case you haven't found all the research notes yet.

I tried Squid Jump again, this time got as far as stage 23.
