Here's all the screenshots I took during my 4th playthrough session of the new Metroid game, going through Area 4. My comments as I was playing the game can be found here.
I like to play video games and write lots of words about them... Sometimes while high on weed. On this site I'm archiving all of my video game logs, including any initial impressions, progress updates, retrospective opinions, and other notes that I feel are worth sharing.
Many SPOILERS are contained throughout these posts. You have been warned!

Metroid Samus Returns - First playthrough log part 4
I now have 105 missile capacity, 4 energy tanks. 21.3% overall completion, Time Played 6:29:08, and 17 Metroids remaining.
This game is longer than I expected.
Area 4
Damn, already I'm bombarded with like half a dozen different ways to go. At least one of these paths is only available after the poison water is lowered.
Already found the Metroid larva shell... I bet this whole area is gonna be a big thing where I chase this one Metroid around throughout the whole area, and that's why there's only one required.
Decided to try the upper path first, but it just lead to a spazer door and another one of those weird green transparent doors, both I can't open yet.
...Actually it's not as open as I thought. I already narrowed my choices down to that one long path to the left.
Dude, this background scenery is so good... this is the best looking area in the game yet. I'm like, consistently impressed with the background art in this game... it looks SO good especially with the 3D turned on. It's amazing they were able to make the game looks this good on a small 240p screen.

Metroid Samus Returns - Screenshots dump (Area 3)
Here's all the screenshots I took during my 3rd playthrough session of the new Metroid game, going through Area 3. My comments as I was playing the game can be found here.
Metroid Samus Returns - First playthrough log part 3
So far I've just been getting 1 energy tank per area... I bet I could probably find a few more if I went back to Area 1 and Surface right now... but nah.
Current Play Time: 3:55:09
14.7% item completion, 27 Metroids remaining
Area 3
Navigating this place is scary with all these invincible turret enemies everywhere. There's also these shelled slug enemies that I can't destroy, but they don't pose much of a threat.
The top path is blocked by some big plant that I can't destroy yet.
Oh, there we go... a breakable ceiling... got the Beam Burst Aeion ability. It's just a stronger version of the Wave Beam that autofires. This is how I destroy all the various things that I couldn't destroy before, including that big flower, and those turrets.
I still can't destroy the blocks with the big red light on them yet.
Looks like I can take this elevator down to a separate part of Area 3, or I can use the Beam Burst to destroy that grey thing that's in the way and continue right.
I always want to avoid the elevators until I've fully explored everywhere else I can go, so I'll continue right.

Metroid Samus Returns - Screenshots dump (Area 2)
Here's all the screenshots I took during my 2nd playthrough session of the new Metroid game, going through Area 2. My comments as I was playing the game can be found here.
Metroid Samus Returns - First playthrough log part 2
Currently I'm just at the start of Area 2... 8.7% item completion, 35 Metroids remaining, and 2 hours played so far.

I just found out that doing charged ice beam shots makes enemies stay frozen for longer. I got up those slippery walls by freezing a flying enemy just as it was swooping down at me, and used it as a platform.
lol wtf... I found a strange purple beehive thing, and I went to inspect it and it killed me like instantly. it's like this really powerful purple cloud thing that kills you as soon as you go near it.
Went a different way instead, and found another Aeion ability room.
Here we go... I bet this Lightning Armor is exactly what I need to get passed that purple thing. yep... it stays on you until you jump into the water... I bet it would also be possible to get through it without the Lightning Armor if you had enough energy tanks.
And I can also just run through the red vines with the Lightning Armor on... this makes navigating this area SO much quicker.

Metroid Samus Returns - Screenshots dump (Surface + Area 1)
Here's the screenshots I took during my first playthrough session of the new Metroid game, as well as some additional comments/thoughts on the game after looking through these again. This earlier post details the thoughts/comments I had WHILE I was playing through this part of game.
Intro
The file screen shows the inside of Samus's gunship... this looks really cool.
Opening cutscene... This is all pretty much 100% accurate to the Metroid II instruction manual's story. It doesn't take long at all for the gameplay to start.
Surface
The atmosphere here on the Surface of SR388, gave me a really good first impression. It's not technically impressive by any means, even for a 3DS game, but the aesthetic just works SO well.
So far it's very linear, just place to learn the controls (which are also very good)
The first time seeing this Metroid sacrifice gate that lowers the poison water... I didn't
