The Manor level in Subcon Forest chapter is insane...
Even just the approach into the manor is kinda unsettling, as the
atmosphere suddenly changes to a spooky, desolate snowy area with a
bunch of abandoned shacks... and then you see the mansion off in the
distance...
The front door is locked, and as you go around the back,
suddenly the cellar door opens on its own.
Inside the mansion, it suddenly becomes a horror game. Some ghost keeps
talking to you and telling you to get out of their house, and as they're
talking, the whole screen shakes and distorts... there are various
pieces of furniture you can hide under... and to progress through the
mansion you need to find keys to unlock doors, but every time you find a
key, you make a bunch of noise and the ghost comes out to chase you,
and the only way to avoid her is to hide under some furniture.
There's this one part where I swear the picture of Hatkid hanging up on
the wall wasn't there the first time I came into the room... and then
the third time, the Hatkid photo had her face erased and replaced with a
really creepy drawn face instead... there's all sorts of weird subtle
details like this that make it that much spookier.
After getting that time piece, I then had enough to unlock the 5th, final chapter.
Mustache Girl suddenly shows up in the ship again, and you play as her
for a bit and break into Hat Kid's safe where she keeps all her time
pieces. Mustache Girl uses the time pieces to mess with time and turns
the planet into a lava planet where she's the supreme ruler and the
judge who sentences all the bad guys.
The start of the level has every single character from every chapter
lined up to enter Mustache Girl's judiciary building to be judged...
none of them know why they are considered criminals now.
The inside of the building is a very Mario-style lava platforming
section, with fire bars and everything... it's kinda tough, it's really
easy to die if you aren't careful. Also this level introduces a new
enemy that sometimes randomly appears and steals your hat if it hits
you... at one point I lost my hat and then the enemy disappeared and I
wasn't able to get it back again, and had to die because I couldn't get
passed an area that requires the Dweller hat.
The final boss battle is intense. She has a bunch of attacks that seem
to be borrowed from the other bosses in the game. The first phase isn't
too hard, I just kept jumping in the air near her and mashing X to do
the homing dive attack... then later on she gets way more agressive,
then all the characters show up and start to help out Hat Kid by killing
themselves to give her a ton of health pickups. They realized it's not
worth living in this timeline, and if they help Hat Kid get the time
pieces back then she can rewind time and revive everyone.
I chose to give Mustache Girl a single time piece, even though the game
said that I might not have enough to return home after that. I don't
know if it makes a difference at all. My time piece count didn't go down
from 26.
lol this ending is hilarious...
