Wow that Mafia rocket race... that's like a way harder version of Koopa
the Quick... I had to use the scooter and then the time hat near the end
to just barely beat him... actually it's incredibly easy if you just
use the time hat alone... beating it with just the scooter alone is a
fun challenge though.
After fully re-exploring Chapter 1 - Mafia Town and getting the last
time rift I was missing, and a bunch more rift tokens and useless yarn
pieces, then I went back to searching for that ridiculously hard to find
Chapter 3 rift portal.
I don't know why this Subcon Forest water pipe location was so hard to
find... it's some random overflowing pool that turns out to be right
near the bridge to the manor, by the outer wall... I must've looked
pretty much everywhere else along the wall except here somehow.
Chapter 4 - Alpine Skyline, I finally found the zipline to the Windmill
island after exploring the main goat fork island a little more. The
windmill section has a lot of going in and out of the big windmill
building.
Then the final "act" of Chapter 4... those purple plants that I saw
blooming and corrupting the goats... now they've taken over the entire
skyline and turned the sky all purple... The goats are now much more
aggressive, and go after you when they see you. This level consists of
going back to the 4 other zones where there were time pieces before and
destroying the sources of the purple plants... each of the areas are
being bombarded with flower missiles and stuff, and the normal path
forward to where the time piece was is destroyed, and you get to some
new areas where the goats lived that you couldn't get to until now...
these are where the purple plants have planted themselves.
Finally, the 40th time piece is a time rift somewhere ontop of a goat
house in Alpine Skyline... I went around looking for it for a long time,
and ended up finding a a whole new couple of islands with rift tokens
and stuff on them... also those invisible cat ninja enemies are all over
the place in these new areas. Once you know they're there, it's easy to
avoid them by constantly jumping around and tapping X to kill them as
soon as they become visible... but they usually catch me off gaurd.
The time rift level itself has a bunch more of those ninja cat enemies
too... and on such small platforms so they pretty much kill you if they
knock you out.
I really, really like Chapter 4 a lot... all of its time pieces just
consist of the tightest, most enjoyable platforming segments... it's
like if you took the Super Mario 3D Land/World style of platforming and
put it into a big open SM64-style level, so it just becomes this huge
maze of branching linear paths, with some shortcuts you can cut across
if you're good enough.
Now that I've fully completed the game, here's how I'd rank the chapters at this point:
Alpine Skyline > Battle of the Birds > Mafia Town > Subcon Forest
