Krazoa Palace
I don't remember much about this game from the first time I played it, other than it's a decent 3D Zelda clone.
Starts off with some backstory... you play as Krystal riding a dinosaur, and there's a pathetically easy shooting boss fight... then you're at this really magical place called Krazoa Shrine... collected the first Krazoa Spirit... back to the less magical Krazoa Palace...
All of a sudden, Krystal gets captured and sealed in a crystal... like Zelda in OoT.
Thorntail Hollow 1
Star Fox is on a mission to restore Dinosaur Planet which is falling apart...
FIrst is a really easy pointless rail shooting arwing mission that is nothing like the original Star Fox games... you need to get 3 gold rings and survive to the end to clear the stage... anything more you do is just for high scores.
Fox lands at Thorntail Hollow, picks up Krystal's staff, and then sees Krystal's floating head talking to her... gets the fire blaster...
You need to shoot fireballs at certain switches, just like the eyeball targets in Zelda.
The Queen Earthwalker asks Fox to go rescue her son who got kidnapped and taken to the Ice Mountain... apparently the only way to travel this world is through warping, maybe because of the world falling apart...
The warp stone is a giant talking rock golem with a hilarious Scottish accent... you need to give him a rock candy in order to get him to warp you to the next area... so you need to collect scarabs, the currency on Dinosaur Planet, and buy a rock candy from the shop... you can also buy the map of the current region and the next region you'll go to...
The shop keeper has a hilarious voice lol... "Youuuuu pay THIS much"...
There's this maze minigame at the bottom of a well... I dunno what that's about... you can buy cheat tokens that you're supposed to take to this maze.
Ice Mountain
Here you need to save the queen's son Tricky from some enemies, and then race them on a snow bike...
Tricky follows Fox around for the rest of the game. He has "Find" and "Stay" commands, he's like a dog... he'll eventually get hungry and stop following your commands if you don't feed him mushrooms... so that's another thing you need to collect.
Snowhorn Wastes 1
a very linear straightforward path with simple puzzles and even simpler combat...
got the rocket boost ability, that only works when there's a boost pad around... there's a lot of context-dependent puzzle elements in this game.
you really need to be in a relaxed mindset to enjoy this game... if I wasn't high on edibles right now I wouldn't be enjoying this much.
paid an enemy some scarabs to pass by him, entered a well, and eventually came out back in Thorntail Hollow...
Thorntail Hollow 2
Fox thinks the mission is over now... but the Queen is sick, and the planet still isn't back together... went down into this underground area beneath Thorntail Hollow... another linear path with simple puzzles to get the white mushroom that the queen needs... then the queen gives Fox a key needed to get farther in Snowhorn Wastes...
Snowhorn Wastes 2
lol what the hell is this game design... so much back and forth... now you have to go back through the well, back to Snowhorn Wastes, and free the Wolly Mammoth from the ice... he then opens the gate to the Dark Ice Mines, which has the Spellstone that General Scales took. These Spellstones are what keep the planet together... To restore the plane, you need to get the spellstones back and return them to the Force Point Temples...
Next is some platforming along an icey river... then back through the well cave AGAIN to get back to Thorntail Hollow... now at this point you need to have a certain number of Fuel Cells in order to take off in the arwing and go to the next area, Dark Ice Mines... The fuel cells are yet ANOTHER collectible that's scattered around everywhere.
Another pointless "collect 3 gold rings" arwing stage...
Dark Ice Mines
I remember this part really well... gotta rescue all the mammoths, find all the bridge cogs in order to cross the bridge... it's the first part of the game that's actually a bit challenging to figure out where to go.
You land inside a lava cave, but then you come out into a snowy area...
Tricky learned the flamethrower command.
Fox rides a mammoth to the next area... some more combat... then another bridge cog fetch quest... more mammoth riding... more combat... Tricky gets captured again... then another snow biking section...
this gameplay is very simple and predictable but there's something fun about it somehow...
The end of the biking section throws you onto a conveyor belt with flamethrowers, and you have to react immediately by shielding... you're now in the "Mines" part of Dark Ice Mines. This part kinda feels a lot like a Zelda dungeon... After you rescue Tricky, then you eventually make your way to a teleporter that leads to the boss room, again just like a Zelda dungeon...
This weird turtle dragon thing has the spellstone... you need to thaw him out with Tricky and then fight him... you have to shoot his stomach and then get eaten and slash at his insides until he vomits out both you and the spellstone...
Then you do another arwing mission to go back to Thorntail Hollow...
