Yooka Laylee playthrough log part 3

- Moodymaze Marsh 1 -

it's some dark swamp/forest area, with some underwater passages and mushrooms everywhere..
I met several shopping cart characters... one of them challenges me to get through this death maze where a wall of electricity chases you... it's not hard at all especially because it restarts you right outside the maze if you die. another cart character wants me to find a way to destroy all of the mushrooms in the mushroom patch, they grow back if you do it the normal way so I dunno.

found Trowsers under a mushroom.. spent all the quills I had to get the tongue grapple move and sonar blast (a more powerful version of the sonar attack that can break windows)... that's before collecting most of the quills in this level though. figured out the sonar blast is how you destroy the mushroom patch..
still no invisibility huh...

wow, I climbed up to the top of the Pumping Plant building and found what looks like a mumbo token. Yooka says this is pirate treasure, and that there might be more to find in other worlds... hmm, is this like this game's stop n swap thing?

some of the water here is all muddy and going in it hurts you.. there's some log platforming over this muddy water.. the platforms sink if you stand on them too long... one of the shopping cart characters tells me how to activate the switches that clean the water and make it swimmable.. the tongue grapple platforming is kinda fun. it seemed a little unreliable at first, until I realized you can't use it while in the middle of a Laylee glide or spring jump.
Now there's a few more underwater sections available.. and some underwater thorns I don't know what to do with yet... found the mollycool underwater.
Dr. Puzz turns me into a shoal of fish, and I can finally attack the jellyfish enemies. I can also go through those underwater vines.. found a couple more pagies using that form, one of them was given by some sunken shopping cart.

Found some big box with a tongue grapple point on it, but I'm not strong enough to move the box at all.. do I need to find some weight element or something? I eventually managed to find the play coin in this world, and got the 2 rextro pagies.. then I went to another island area I hadn't been to before... Found another dumb Kartos challenge... and I also found this world's boss, a tentacle monster, he's really easy, not even worth commenting on.

I think I've done everything I can here for now... got 15/25 pagies, 121/200 quills, and 4/5 ghosts in this world. I did manage to figure out that the blue vanishing ghost can be captured with the sonar ability. I also realized I should be using sonar more often to stun enemies while I'm fighting them.

- Hivory Towers 4 -
Used tongue grapple to get to the next area, but had to go through Dr. Quack's 2nd (and final, apparently) quiz.
This 4th area is outdoors, there's some toxic chemical tunnel that I need air protection to get through... Trowzers here gives me the invisibility move... okay now that I got this, may as well go back to the previous area of the tower and collect at least that one pagie I saw before. That detour didn't take very long at all..
This next area is huge... I already found the next grand tome, leading to Capital Cashino... but I still want to explore around this new hub section first just cuz I can.
there's books all over the place... seems like I'm getting close to where all the books are getting sucked into

lol this staircase of giant books... one of them has the title "To the Top! How I stepped up - Step Edition"
another book called "Capital Bee - Domino Edition"... they're lined up in a row across to a giant switch on the area where all the books are being sucked into..

went through some grapple platforming section and found a giant book room called "Novel Hovel".. there's an easy pagie to get here but nothing else.
guess that's probably all I can do in the hub for now.
Hivory Towers total is 12/20 pagies, 1/2 extenders
Overall total is currently 44/145 pagies, 388/1010 quills, 2/12 extenders, 2/5 play coins, 3/5 mollycools, and 9/25 ghosts... around 8 hours played so far.

- Capital Cashino 1 -

The graphics in this level look REALLY nice

Some guy that looks like Capital B wearing sunglasses is the casino banker, he exchanges casino tokens for pagies... he to get casino tokens you have to bet pagies to play some totally not rigged games... but actually I found some tokens just laying around in some water area.

Found another pig knight character, this one's a little girl riding springy horse.. she doesn't wanna talk to a lizard though.
there's a lot of fun little minigames around here that give tokens as prizes... and a lot of slot machines that aren't hard to beat at all, just tedious.
found the play coin and the arcade game "Hurdle Hijinx".. this one is pretty fun. I just barely managed to beat Rextro's high score on the 3rd try.

This level is very straightforward... it's arranged like a giant casino building, very open and easy to find your way around. some of the stuff is "under construction" which obviously means it's an extended version thing.
At least the lower floor is straightforward.. one I started climbing to the higher levels where there's a bunch of platforming and slides and stuff, I started getting lost

The Kartos minigame in this level was the first one that was actually a challenge. you have to know when to use speed boosts and slowdowns to get enough gems on this course.
Then after beating that, the security bot sees us and attacks, for breaking the rule of awarding pagies directly... this boss fight is really good. It took a few tries and on the last try I beat first 2 phases without getting hit at all... the 3rd phase caught me off gaurd.

I found the mollycool from a slot machine, and Dr. Puzz turned me into a helicopter... it's really easy to go around collecting all the quills in this form. The main thing you need to do with the helicopter though is to escort the 3 pig night characters to where they want to be. As usual they only give you a hint for where to go... It was kinda hard until I realized you had to look for the red/white ring goal. Once you find that and know where it is, you have easily enough time to beeline towards it and complete the mission. each of the pigs gives you tokens for escorting them.

How the hell did I go this long without finding Trowzers? It turns out he's right near the beginning, close to where the banker guy is. Got the spindash move. Used that to get that one guy's card back and beat the minigolf game.

I'm pretty sure I've collected just about everything I can here for now. This level is really fun...

Capital Cashino total is currently 13/25 pagies, 147/200 quills, 1/2 extenders, and 2/5 ghosts.

- Hivory Towers 5 -

Right away I found Trowzers and learned the flight ability. Lets you fly anywhere as long as you have energy... suddenly, this hub world just got a LOT bigger.
This outdoor section alone is already quite big, and it goes on for a while.. there's a lot of places that look like I can fly to, but there's actually invisible walls preventing you from going there..
I flew across the toxic river, to another area near the tower... still in this same outdoor area... there's the 5th grand tome, judging by what the environment around it looks like seems to be a psychedelic jungle level... and there's also the door to Capital B's main elevator.. it says I need 100 pagies to get through. There's also a very long windy tunnel with a pagie at the end tied to a rope, not sure how to get through it...
and there's a shortcut that leads to the upper section of that area with the book staircases.. I used the spindash to knock over the domino books and got a pagie..
Back at the 5th tome area, found another doorway that leads to a slide obstacle course with a pagie prize for getting to the end before the time runs out.
This slide is pretty hard. It took me like 5 tries before I was able to make it through without screwing up too much.
And lastly, there's another doorway near the final elevator area, that opens up a shortcut back to the 2nd tome hub area.. I used flight to get a pagie ontop of an unclimbable hill around there.

Hivory Towers total is now 15/20 pagies and 1/2 extenders... There might still be stuff I could find now that I have flight, but I guess at this point I'll wait until I've been to the 5th world so then I'll have all of the moves in the game when I go to re-explore the earlier hub areas.
Overall total is now 60/145 pagies, 535/1010 quills, 3/12 extenders, and 11/25 ghosts, and about 12 hours of play time so far. At least I'm more than half way through the quill collecting. This is without extending any of the worlds or revisiting worlds yet.
